I'm Jodi Fisher with Jodi's Ski School in Orlando, Florida and for Expert Village I would like to talk today about safety in water skiing. First and foremost we always want to use a life vest, coast guard approved if possible. A life vest is very important so that, in case we get knocked unconscious, you have a device there that would help to keep you afloat at all times. It is very, very important. They come in various different sizes to fit comfortably. Slightly different materials. We have the cheaper version, which is just a nylon coated foam. Moving on to a neon coated foam, which is a little bit more expensive, but more comfortable, more stylish. Under that, if it is a little cool, just to help keep you warm, there are various different wet suits, different sizes, long sleeves, short sleeves, long legs. Whatever you feel comfortable for the climate that you are skiing in. For jump skiing, you would always use a hard shell helmet. This helps to protect your head in case of any impact with the water or the jump, or even the skis that you are wearing. Sometimes once in a while when we do take a crash it just helps to protect your head. Finally it is really important to have two people in the boat all the times. A driver and a spotter. If somebody sat back facing the skier, continually watching what is happening 100% of the time, that is safety.
