Hi! My name is Dan, and I’m here with Expert Village today to talk about a tying a bowline. A bowline is very common and very useful knot; it is strong, and even when put under a load, it’s easy to untie. There’s numerous ways to tie it. I’m going to show you just one, I like to think of it sort of like starting my car. I got my ignition and my key, I lay my key on top of the ignition and I twist, then I wrap around in back of my line and follow my tail end through the loop. To untie the bowline, you do what’s called breaking its back: it is fold the loop forward, and the whole knot comes loose. It’s an excellent way to make a loop, so right now I’m going to tie it around myself, key in the ignition the bowline.
