Supplies Needed for Environmental Building
Here’s some of the things that we’re going to be using today. Some of these things won’t be used only because instead of the blocks I’m going to demonstrate the straw bales being mounted to, you’re typically going to have an existing foundation slab that you’re going to have with the rebar and everything already set in. so this is just giving you an idea of how everything mounts to the ground and how everything kind of works. So we’re not going to normally use this sort of block, but you could if you wanted to. You’re going to need some rebar to stabilize the bales and keep them solid in the wall. You’re going to need some bale pins- they’re actually like lawn pins that they use for putting down covering for the ground. You’re going to need some trowels, and sometimes it’s good for plaster and stuff to trim the edges, but for cement and just the rough coat, we can use a regular just plain old trowel. You need a gallon- a big five gallon bucket for water and mixing things in. maybe a wheelbarrow and a shovel. You need your straw, of course, your hay. And other little buckets and things to mix your stuff in. I recommend you wear a rubber glove to keep yourself protected from the concrete, ‘cause the concrete is a bit toxic. And you will need some wire to wrap the bales with to put on your exterior coat for putting your concrete over.
