Part 1: Removing the G Violin String

Hi I'm David Kaynor for expertvillage.com. I'm talking about changing strings on a violin. I generally start with the G string, and as I mentioned on a previous segment, I generally only change one string at a time, and I leave the other three up to tension, and I'll bring the changed G string up to tension before I go to work on the next string. So I just support the fiddle; I support the peg box with my free hand and merely turn the peg. The tension releases, and the string unwraps from the peg, and it is free. At this end I simply slip it out of the claw of the fine tuner and here we have a rather old G string.
