Slurring Across the Bar Line Bowing Effect

Hi! I’m David Kaynor for expertvillage.com. I’m exploring the bowing options for the Old British Isles jig the Gobby-O. And I’ve already presented several including the down for two 8th notes, up for one 8th note, down for the next two and up to the last. This presupposes that the first down bow is going to begin on the first 8th note of the measure. Well it could. In some parts of the tune, it actually adds a very interesting effect if you start the down bow on the last 8th note of the measure, and then you have the effect a lot of the fiddlers refer to as slurring across the bar line. And this has a very neat, potentially, has a very neat effect on the experience of the rhythm. So here it is: the Gobby-O with some slurring across the bar line…
