Finishing Touches on Wood Chair Repair
This is Charles McMahon for Expert Village. Now we’ve got this chair all epoxied and clamped, we will wait for a few hours before we take the clamps off. What we should do after that and with this chair here that we have already repaired, you can see this is quite stable. We’ve got these 2 new spindles and a bracing piece on the bottom. What we should do is stain these with something that comes as close as we can to these other spindles and we will do the same with this one. We generally use these sheepskins on these chairs just for comfort. You can buy these in lots of places like IKEA and these make the chairs quite comfortable. Another thing they do is hide the repair so you really can’t see as long as you have these sheepskins on here you really can’t see the new spindles and so that is why we get away with using just dowels to replace the spindles. We don’t worry too much about the fact that they are straight sides and they are not turned on a lathe the way the original ones do because these are just utilitarian chairs, not fine furniture.
