Well explained. Clearly demonstrated. Thank you. I am learning to figure skate and find this series of videos extremely helpful.

To the person who posted a comment "Does skating backwards really look this riduculous", and the "he stinks "I would like to say that skating backwards ( before you know what you are doing ) , needs to be properly explained, step by step. I believe that Dmitri has done that well. This is an INSTRUCTIONAL video, not an artistic competition. Im afraid that your comment just made me realise that you, seems to have little or no experience at all in skating. I dont think you would survive in a rink ( actually) because skaters, have genuine respect for each other, know how difficult the sport is. There is much dignity in how we treat each other at our rink, ! I doubt anyone would welcome either one of you . ( and yes feel free to comment on my 'bad'english if you wish .

I just wanted to say a few things about the negative comments to your videos. I've posted this same comment under all of your videos since the haters have done the same thing, too. The negative comments seem to be coming from a small group of people--in fact, I say it's coming from just one person posting under different screen names. I would probably pay attention to the criticism if it were actually objective, coherent or constructive--but it's none of these things. Its only purpose is to slander you. Whoever is trying to paint you as a bad guy has done quite the opposite. He/she is full of vindictiveness and pettiness and clearly has a personal grudge against you. Whatever you've done to warrant this kind of treatment, whether you deserve it or not, is completely irrelevant and is none of my business. All that really matters is if your videos are useful and helpful or not. In my humble opinion, your videos have been a great help to me and I applaud you for that.

that's nice that he says make the push happen faster, does he even explain how to do it?!?! just saying to a skater go faster isn't going to make them improve, if he was so great he would know that.

Backward Strokes in Ice Skating
Hello my name is Dmitri Olympiev and I teach at Pines Ice Arena in Pembroke, Florida. You can reach us on the web at www.www.pinesicearena.com. Now the next thing I’m going to show you involves backwards skating on one foot. So it’s really, really hard to do. Okay, but I’m going to get you through it. It’s called “Backwards Stroking.” Now we’re going to keep the knees bent, back straight. We’re going to make a back swizzle with one foot, bring the feet together and then bring the leg up. Back swizzle with the left foot, feet together, leg up. Now the reason we’re doing a swizzle is to make a push. One, two. Take a look at my back when I’m doing this, straight back, arms up. One, two. If you want to improve on this, make the push happen faster. One, two. We’ll be right back.
