Hi I'm David Kaynor for expertvillage.com. It's an interesting sounding violin, and people in different fiddle traditions can actually make that tuning work and play some really beautiful music. I, for better or for worse, have been brought up musically in the tradition of standard violin tuning, which is a fifth apart, five notes apart, five tones apart. That is only four. So, and that is only... that is a fifth. That is not. That's just four notes apart, so I'm going to tune this down. I'm using the pegs, and there is going to be more about that in the next sequence. But now we have a fiddle which sounds more like standard tuning. And now I could play a recognizable tune in standard intervals. The fiddle is not tuned at standard pitch, and there are some other issues about tuning and retuning, but they will be covered in the next chapter.
