Various Finishes for your Straw Bale House
There’s lots of different ways you can finish your straw bales. There’s plasters, there’s different types of cement stucco finishes, and I’m going to read you a couple of different mixtures of the cement stuccos. One is your scrathco. You’re going to use two bags of cement, one bag of lime, and thirty-seven rounded shovels of screened, clean sand. Your brown coat, you’re going to use one bag of cement, one bag of lime, forty-five round shovels of screened, clean sand. And you’re finished coat, you’re going to use a bag of cement, a bag of line, and forty rounded shovels of screened, clean sand. Real fine sand, or even silica sand for a really smooth finish if you want that real special kind of a look on the outside of your house. So believe it or not, the way you make your mixtures of your cement in your stucco and your plasters, really makes a difference so really keep an eye on it. It’s got to be like a recipe- try to keep it the same all the time so your stucco or your cement or plasters are consistent, and have at it.
