Hi! I’m Helen McMahon for Expert Village. We are resuming the process of making butterscotch brownies today. We’ve already added the moist ingredients: the butter, the eggs, the sugar, the baking powder and the salt. Now we’re going to put vanilla in for flavoring, and this requires 1 teaspoon of vanilla, this is pure vanilla. I know it’s expensive, much more expensive than the artificial, but the flavor is worth it and it’s only a teaspoon at a time, or you can also use fresh vanilla beans but they’re sometimes hard to come by. Just add it slowly; don’t worry if some of it gets thrown against the side of the bowl because we can scrape that down. Now is probably a good idea to scrape down the sides and the beaters so that the ingredients will be properly mixed.
