Sewing Techniques: Backstitching

On behalf of expertvillage.com, I am Jennifer with a Perfect Fit Alterations. We are located in Burleson, Texas and our phone number is (817) 447-3522. In this segment, I am going to be explaining backstitching and the reason and purpose for backstitching. Backstitching is the reverse button on your sewing machine. It is used for locking in your stitches when you are doing projects that are under stress and really just in general sewing you always need to backstitch before you start a seam. The backstitching is achieved by hitting the reverse button on your machine. On this machine, this is a computerized machine and on this machine it is just a button that you push. You push the button and the machine will go backwards. I am going to be working on projects of pet coat and demonstrating that backstitching when you are putting on decorations and when you are putting on fastening devices and also when you are sewing seams together and they are going to have a little stress on them. You want to make sure you always do the backstitching on the seams with the stress. If you don't, when there is any stress on the seams the seams will just pull apart.
