Kids Swimming Lessons: Swim Away From the Wall

In this section I'll be talking about step number six. And, it's kind of piggy backing off of step number five, step number five is definitely to get them to do the full body movement. In this section what you want to do is now not really grab them around the waist, just have them push off the wall where they can reach the floor, and start off at a short distance, where they're just moving their arms, their kicking their feet, they hopefully have their head in the water, or if they have to, you know, they're blowing bubbles and have their head out of the water, that's fine. Or, they just have their head out of the water for now, but preferably you know, they take a deep breath, they put their head in the water and they're just at least attempting to do it. It may be a little sloppy, that's perfectly fine, but the whole point of it is to get them to do it on their own, and start from you know, the edge of the pool, work your way out, and as they get more comfortable you know, move a little bit more further back and eventually you want them to do the full length of the pool, from one side to the other side. In this step, it's a continuation of step number six. You're going to want the child to just basically swim half way from one part of the pool, to the other part of the pool, like this. And, make sure that they kick their feet up and down as well.
