Optional Start Position for Youth Wrestling Moves

Hi! My name is Matthew Moyles. I’m a coach here at Minisink Valley. I’m here on behalf of Expert Village and today we’re going to go over competitive wrestling. Here we are going to introduce you to another start for wrestling. This is called an optional start and what that means is the top wrestler will give the option to the bottom wrestler to escape. What he has to do is he has to present this to the official by giving this symbol. What that signifies is he’s going to let the bottom guy escape. Bottom guy set, top guy. Josh here gives me the signal that he’s going to do an optional start and then I would have to show Richard. Bottom guy, optional start. Once Richard nods and I know he has the okay the optional start, top guy, you may precede. Now when the whistle blows, he will either push him away or he will ride it.
