Hi! My name is Matthew Moyles. I’m a coach here at Minisink Valley. I’m here on behalf of Expert Village and today we’re going to go over competitive wrestling. Here we’re going to go over one of the basic three positions in wrestling. We talked about neutral; we talked about top, now we’re going to talk about bottom. Here we see that Richards’s in your basic referee’s position. His back is straight, his head is up, his elbows are slightly bent. This will allow the explosion from the bottom. If he turns a little bit, you can see that he’s doing what is called sitting on his laces. By sitting on his laces this prevents the guy who is on top from grabbing his feet or getting access to his feet. This is a good referee’s position. Another bottom position here is what Josh is in. Josh is also back is straight, his head is up, two of the most important things in bottom position. His elbows are slightly bent. The only difference is his toes are curled underneath. Now I can grab his laces however, this allows for more explosion on the bottom because you can spring up with your toes.
