What is a Shadow Box?
Hi this is Jenny with simple beautiful crafts on behalf of expertvillage.com. I like to talk to you a little bit about shadow boxes. First of all what is a shadow box. As you could see from these three examples a shadow box is basically a deep frame that holds momentums, memorizers, or collectibles. This one this is a shadow box that was purchase already finish and it has a collection of seashells in it. So if you want to get a shadow box and not have to do it yourself that is the way that you can go. If you are very good at wood working as our son is you can make your own shadow box. He crafted this shadow box in his workshop made it out of wood, got the emblems and the patches and the pictures to put inside of it and as you can see he put a lot of time and effort into this. If you are not a expert at wood working and you still want to make a shadow box you can purchase a shadow box frame. You can get this kind of frame at Michaels, Joanne's, Target, anyone of your local craft store or even a frame shop. A shadow box frame like this cost about 20 dollars if you don't get it on sale. What happens with a frame like this it has a removable back, and so you simply move the clips it almost always have a way to hang it as well and then you take the back off and you can fill this with whatever you would like to put in it. It has this little foam piece and it has a piece of glass to keep your mementos or whatever you want to put in here dust free. It is up to you to fill this and it doesn't have any dividers in it you have to do that yourself. When you are finish with your project you just put your back, back on the piece and you have a frame box with a glass front that you can use as a shadow box. I'm going to show you many different everyday items that you can use for a shadow box if you would like. Again this is a purchase shadow box that you will fill. This is a shadow box that was purchase already filled and this is a hand made shadow box all of the wood was cut, sized, varnish, and finished. This is a very complicated piece. This is a simple piece that you purchase and this is one that you can do that is kind of half way in between this very complicated piece and a purchase piece. That is basically what a shadow box is.
