Auto Detailing: Foreign Car Engines

Hi, it's Dow with the Fire House Car Wash teaching you how to detail engines on vehicles like a professional. One of the things we have to do is evaluate different engine types. On some of these nice foreign cars, you're going to find where they've really gone all out to make the engine look beautiful. And part of the overall package, what you're paying in these higher-end cars, is they've got protective covers like this one here. Now in order to do a thorough cleaning, we're going to have to remove this engine cover. And we want to take great care to not damage it, not scratch it, not lose any of these fastening devices. And whenever we're working around a car, we always want to take great caution. Just as we're being safe and cautious to protect our eyes and our hands by wearing gloves and eye protection, we also want to make sure we don't touch any paint area, lean against it. You might want to take your belt off, you might want to take any rings you've got off, whenever you're working around a car, to make sure that there's not any damage that you do to the outside. And then simply, on this, it's just simply turning and removing these little pop screws and this whole area'll lift off. Now we can clean the dirt, the grime underneath it. Have a safe place to set this. You don't want it to be stepped on by one of your co-workers or by yourself. So put it up on a table, on a shelf. Get it away where it can be cleaned separately, dressed up, and then as a final stage, we'll take this, we'll put it back on. Take great care not to lose these little set screws. They may look inexpensive, but you don't run down to Home Depot to replace them. You've got to call the dealership and you'd be surprised how expensive little parts like that can be that are not standard and they have to order back in.
