Tae Kwon Do Turning Kick

Hi this is Aaron Fruitstone from Chi Martial Arts in Miami Shores, Florida. You can reach us on the web at www.chimartialarts.com. The next technique that you’ll be learning is a kick that works laterally to your opponent, so you have to imagine that you’re chopping with an axe, you’re chopping wood as you execute this technique. It’s called a turning kick, turning kicks are aimed at the 45 degree angles, the fundamentals to remember are to turn the standing foot. The more that you turn it, the higher the kick will go. You’re going to rotate your standing foot outward and at the same time you’re going to bring your right hip all the way to pointing to the 45 degree angle. Rotate and lift your knee, you’re going to travel out with the leg, back in and slowly return. Again in slow motion. Rotate, point your hip and your knee to the 45, out, in and slowly return. At normal speed. And from the side. Rotate, knee up, out, in and return. And again, the more you rotate the higher the kick. We’ll be back.
