Hello! My name is Melissa Schenk and on behalf of expertvillage.com, today we’re discussing some basic tips for playing the game set. Now, in earlier clips, we talked about what makes a set. What are we looking for? So we know that out of the 3 cards, all of the symbols and the numbers and the shading and the colors have to either be all the same or all different. Right now, let’s go to the board once again. We’ve got a list of questions that you can internally ask yourself when you’re looking for 3 cards out of the set of 12. Remember, there could be more than 1 set in this set of 12 here that you’ve put out. When you find a set 3, you’re going to yell out the word set, take those 3 cards, and then replace it with 3 more, which changes up the game again completely. When you’re looking at these 12 cards here, a couple of questions you’ve got to ask yourself. One of them, the first one being, are they all the same color. Now, remember you’re just trying to sort out 3 particular cards that could potentially be a set. So are they all the same color? If your answer is yes, well then they’re all the same color. If it’s no, well then are they all different colors. Instead of them being all green perhaps, is 2 green? Is one red? Is one purple? If they’re all different, well then that could be a possibility. Now, if you go to the next part of this and if you’re thinking of this when you’re even thinking color, if only 2 of them share the same color. Perhaps we’re looking at these ones here, well then in the third one the different color, you know that’s not going to form a set because they’re not either the same or all different when you’re referring to color. Here, you would be missing the color purple. As we move on, then we look into the next category of the 4 features. That would be are they all the same shape or all they all different shapes. Remember when we refer to shapes, we’re talking about the squiggles, the diamonds, or the ovals. Then we move on again of course, to we’ve talked about the color, symbols, and numbers. Do they have all the same number of shapes on there? Is there 3 on the card, 2, or 1? Is it all the same or is it all different? Then finally, we look at the shading of the cards. Is the shading all the same or all different? Are they all solid, outlined, or striped? You have to kind of go back and forth and ask yourself, are they all different or all they all the same? We’re looking for is a set of 3.
