Etude Number Nineteen for Classical Guitar: Part 1
Hi! My name is John Armstrong with expertvillage.com. I’m a professional guitar instructor, and today I’ll be discussing some advanced classical guitar pieces. Okay, next I’d like to introduce another Carcassi. This one’s entitled Etude number 19 by Mateo Carcassi. It’s an excellent arpeggio kind of etude. A lot of use of all four PIM and A figures. It’s in the key of E minor, so you’ll notice the F sharp symbol in 3-4 time. Let’s just start off with the first few phrases here starting with an E minor. I would try to use rest strokes here with that A finger on that high E string. Free strokes with MI and then M again. Here’s the first measure. Starting with the next measure. Notice how I want to try to keep that A and MI fingers in the background, kind of as an accompaniment. That’s one of the reasons why we’re going to use that A finger on the high E string. We’re using rest strokes with in order to bring out the melody, the upper melody, than the upper voice there. The rest of the notes we’re going to keep it in the background there. The first 2 measures again here. A lot of vibrato on that high D note helps to bring that out. It makes it sound more dramatic.
