Writer Pros & Cons

The pros and cons of being a writer. Ah, pros, let's see. You get to set your own hours. You're basically in control of your destiny, and you're doing something very creative. At the end of the day, you finish something that is yours and you can own it. It's a living, breathing piece of who you are. The other pro is when you touch somebody with what you've written, or people say, wow, that was a good read. I enjoyed your story, I enjoyed your book. What a wonderful feeling. The cons, it's a very difficult job. It can be very lonely and it can be very frustrating. You're out there, there are over a hundred thousand books that are published every year. And if you say that there's a ten to one ratio on that, there's a million books that are written and attempted to be published every year. And that's just the United States, and you're going to be one of those. So you're up against a phenomenal amount of competition, in a very difficult world to get your voice out there. And, granted the inter-net is a wonderful vehicle, but it's also a very difficult and scary place to try to get the word out, so it's. The cons are, it's not easy. It's going to be a love, it's going to be a love of passion, a work of passion, to get yourself out there and you have to love what you do. And as I tell people, who want to get into writing. You have to forget the very first word you ever learned, and that's no. And if you for, can forget what that word means, and erase it from your mind, than the cons are easier to deal with.
