Hi, my name is Chell Garcia-Trias, and I'm a modern dance instructor in Austin, Texas. I'm going to show you how to do a nice quad stretch in modern dance. So, first of all I'm going to make sure that my feet are rooted in the ground. I'm going to imagine that I have little roots all along my foot, and that's it's pushing my feet into the ground. Then I'm going to bend my standing leg--both legs actually--but I'm going to pick one leg up, I'm going to reach for it with my hand, and I'm going to pull it behind my body. So what I'm doing here--I'll show you from the side--I'm pulling my heel to my sits bone. So from the side you'll see. I'm pulling my heel straight back to my sits bone. And I'm just pulling on it, pulling on it, so that I can feel a little stretch in my quad. If I want I can use both of my hands. If I feel like I want to go even deeper, I might raise my hand up, and I'm going to reach up and out with my hands and up and out with my foot at the same time. So I'm pushing my foot into my hand. And that feels like a nice, intense stretch of my quad. Now, if that's too much, if this is enough of a stretch and I feel like I don't have enough balance here, I might hold onto a chair or hold onto the wall, and that's fine. We really want to just continually deepen our stretch, but work within our body's limitations, so you need to really listen to your body and see what your body wants to do here. So, that's a great way to stretch out your quads, and actually also to open up your hips in modern dance.
