Hi, my name is Chell Garcia-Trias and I'm a modern dance instructor in Austin, Texas. I'm going to show you how to do a simple Modern Dance lateral stretch. The first thing I'm going to do is open my feet into a secant position. So I'm just going to take my feet a little bit wide. I'm going to have them turn out a little bit so if I bend my knees they would go right over my toes, but they're turned out, they're not parallel, they're turned out comfortably. I'm going to reach up with my arms so that I have a V in my arms that's very symmetrical to the V in my legs. I'm going to push my feet into the ground, I'm going to push my shoulders into my back and then I'm going to reach up and over with my upper body. I'm going to keep my head active, so it's not hanging, it's active. My neck is long, my chin is dropped back a little bit, and I'm reaching up, up, up, up, up. So I feel really deep intense stretch in this whole side of my body. I'm going to take deep breaths while I'm there. And I'm going to make sure not to collapse in this side of my body either. I'm reaching up, I'm reaching for the corner of the wall. And then I'm going to push through my foot to bring my upper body back to center; and I can go up and over the other way. Reaching out, out, out. Coming up and over, back to neutral. So that's a great way to get some lateral stretches in, in Modern Dance. You can take your time with those stretches, as much as time as you want. I went a little bit quickly but, you take your time. Thanks.
