Impossible Pushes in Abalone

Hello! My name is Melissa Shank and on behalf of expertvillage.com, today we are talking about some basic tips for playing the game Abalone. All right, so I hope you are starting to understand how to play the game Abalone. So what we are going to do in this segment, is give you some examples once again of some impossible pushes so that you make sure you are understand exactly how you are pushing your marbles. So we head to the board. We've got some examples of yes indeed, some impossible pushes. So our first example here would be this one right here. This 3 to a 2 to a 1 here are basically 3 black and 2 white and one black in there. This is an impossible push because black cannot push white because there is no free space in here. We have talked about that in earlier segment but it is always good to review. You've got to have that empty space. If the black marble was there well then it would be fine and you would be free to push. Now in this example here you've got 3 black, 2 white and you think oh great, I can push this but no you can't. Black cannot push the white marbles because there is an empty space in here. Okay so there is an empty space between the black group and the white group. Again if they did that and in the next move so see there is really no place for these 2 pieces to go unless white did something like that. Black could more in there and then push off one of the pieces. You can see how the game can change and why it really goes back and forth because it can change that drastically. In our last example of an impossible push, head over to this corner right in there. Here you've got 3 black , 2 white but remember our rule. Is that when you are making a push all of pieces of the marbles have to be in line. Black cannot push all of the white marbles or these 2 white marbles because they are not in line. If they were for instance; well if they were over here like this, that would be fine. Three could push 2 of the whites and eject one of the marbles. Just a couple of examples there to make sure you are understand the game Abalone as we go through.
