Understanding the Rules & Illegal Moves in Abalone
Hello! My name is Melissa Shank and on behalf of expertvillage.com, today we've been discussing some basic tips for playing the game Abalone. So hopefully you are starting to get on to some of the rules and regulations and how to move your marbles in playing the game Abalone. Now let's go in and discuss some of illegal moves just to make sure you are getting the idea of how to move these marbles. So let's go to the board once again. We've set it up and placed and we've set up some illegal moves to explain what you can and cannot do. First illegal move right here; of course white can push black but 1 can't push 2. All right remember you can move 1 marble but when it comes to pushing, you always have to have a larger number pushing a smaller number. So this is an illegal move right here. For instance this black might thing oh, I can eject a marble there. No you can't because it is an illegal move; you've got 1 pushing 2. On to the next one; same kind of idea here is that 2 cannot push 3. Three can push 2 because it is larger to smaller number. Two cannot push 3. Okay onto the next illegal move. Here we've got 4 and 4 kind of in a dual between one another. Of course, you can only have 3 marbles at a time so 4 no good and you couldn't push it right in here too because you've got the same number trying to push the same number but of course 2 even if it was 3 black with 3 white, you couldn't do that because there is no superiority to push in here. Finally our last illegal move, is right in here. Of course you remember in an earlier segment, in order to push you do have a 3 to a 2 here. There is a position of superiority but this move is illegal because there is no free space because you've got a black ball or black marble in its way. So you can't push that unless in one move if you were to perhaps to take that black one and move it out there. So now you have that option to push either here 2 to 1 or 3 to 2. So there is just a couple of illegal moves and in our next segment we will talk about actually ejected the rest of these marks and winning the game.
