Proceedings for Abalone
Hello! My name is Melissa Shank and on behalf of expertvillage.com, today we are learning some basic tips for playing the game Abalone. Now in an earlier segment we of course learned the object of the game. We set up the board, we learned a few rules and now it is time to talk about the proceedings of the game. So if we go to the board once again and have a look with our marbles, how the heck do we moved these marbles around. Now some important things to keep in mind is that when it is your turn you are player 1 and let's say you are black. You can move either 1, 2, or 3 of your marbles all at once and you do that by pushing your marbles like this. For instance, one of our marbles was right here and we are just going to move one marble. You have the option of moving your marble in any 6 possible directions provided that there is a free space in front of it. What I mean if there is a free space right here. So what I mean by 6 options you count around in kind of a circle here; I can either go backwards, forward, diagonally side to side or in line as well. So we've got 1 move, 2 possible moves, 3 possible, 4, 5 and 6. Now that is just with 1 marble. You have the option of either pushing 1 marble or if you had 2 here, you could do the same. This one you can't necessarily go in 6 different directions because you have to push them in line. You can't pick up a marble and move it and push it like that. They have to stay in line. So in this case we can either go side to side or in that case, that is pretty much it. Down here, we can also push 3 marbles. You can go 1 forward. So as you can see here just a few proceedings to keep in mind. You are going to have to either move 1, 2 or 3 marbles at a time provided that there was a free space in front or behind wherever you want to move.
