Hi my name is John Armstrong with expertvillage.com I'm a professional guitar instructor and today we are going to be discussing beginning classical guitar. Now we are going to discuss the first 3 notes that you would be learning the E, the F, and the G note. The E note which if you notice rest in the top space of the musical staff would be played using the open E string. Later we would discuss other places that you could play that note. The F note which is on the top line of the musical staff would be played at the first fret of the first string using your first finger. The G note which rest just on top of the musical staff would be played on the first string at the third fret using your third finger. It is important that you memorize those notes. Memorize whether they are out of the musical staff, what there letter name is, and whether out on your guitar. Those are the three things that you are thinking of when you are learning a new note or a group of notes. The exercise that I have given you here is in 4,4 times so we counting to 4 for each of the measures. It is combination of a whole note, half note, and quarter notes using the E,F, and G notes that we have learned here. I will take in a slow tempo it is important to give your self a blank measure first. Just count to 4 first before you start then come in. I will give you a example I play it for you here first and then you could try it yourself. 1,2, ready beginning and 1,2,3,4, and 1,2, and 3, 4 and 1,2,3,4, and 1,2,3,4, and 1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4, and 1,2,3,4. Also I will suggest alternating between your I and M fingers using rest strokes. The rest strokes takes technique is usually a little bit awkward or foreign to people at first. So in order to get a little extra practice in doing that practice using the I and using rest strokes alternating back and forth between your I and M fingers on this exercise. It is another way which you could get a little bit more out of the exercise.
