Hi! My name is Connie Hale. Thanks for joining me here at expertvillage.com. What we’re working on is some beginning tap steps for the little 3, 4, 5, and 6 year olds. Again, children age at different times. Some can tap at 3, some can tap at 4, 5, or 6. It just depends when they are ready. But some simple things to get them ready, what we’re going to work on now is just what’s called hit hit step. Just using the toe to hit the back behind your foot. Hit, hit, step, hit, hit, step. Just getting their balance and getting work them working on transferring weight onto either foot. Hit, hit, step, hit, hit, step, hit, hit, step, hit, hit, step. What you can also do to start working on their balance is simple. It’s called a ronde des jambes in ballet, but I just call it tap it in a circle. Real simple. It’s just bring the foot out, and we tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, to the side, round to the back and in. So it’s just making a simple circle with the foot. Front, side, back, and hit, step. Tapping in a circle. Again, what we’re working on here is trying to get children to learn how to transfer the balance with their body. That’s a lot of what tap dancing is all about, is transferring your body so you’ll able to get these clear taps out. Again, what we just did is was a simple hit, hit, step. Hit, hit, step, and tapping in a circle. You really want them to slap that floor with their toe. If you think your daughter is ready to us in tap class, you guys can join us at Cynergy Dance. We’re located on Thousand Oaks in San Antonio. Check us out at www.cynergydance.com, and you check out what times we have classes appropriate for your child’s age. Thanks so much!
