Modern Dance Tuck Jump

Hi my name is Chell Garcia-Trias and I am a modern dance instructor in Austin, Texas. I'm going to show you how to do a jump off of the floor. We are going to start tucked sitting on our knees and we are going to tuck in a ball and we're going to use our arms to pull ourselves off the ground. So first of all we are going to be lifting with the arms, then we are also going to be lifting with the legs and I'm going to be pushed up on my toes and I'm going to use my stomach to bring myself on to my knees so it looks like this. It's a little bit tricky so don't be discouraged if you can't do it right away, just try it again and you might want to try it on the carpet but be careful because you might get a little brush burn on your feet. You will probably get a brush burn even if you were doing it on a hardwood floor or concrete like here. So again you are tucked, you are tucked and you are lift up with your arms and you are going to lift up with your stomach and slide your legs forward and if you want from here you can do the same jump again only you are jumping from your feet, you are tucking your knees in to your chest and I'm going to get really high now. So I'm going to jump up and tuck my feet in and that will bring you all the way up to standing so if you want to see the whole thing in combination together we start down low, we tuck, we jump up and then again we jump up. So that's a nice little combination of two little tucks where we jump off of the floor.
