Modern Dance Asymmetrical Jump

Hi my name is Chell Garcia-Trias and I'm a modern dance instructor in Austin Texas; I'm going to show you how to do an asymmetrical jump. So first of all you just want to think of jumping off the ground; you're going to bend your knees really deep, nice plie and just jump up off the ground. Now I'm using my arms to help me get up off the ground too; I'm going to bring them up as I jump, now for this jump if you want you can have your hands in a nice ballet fifth position; you can just throw them back if you want to, you can do anything with them that you want really. But what I'm going to do with my legs is I'm going to bring this leg up to my pelvis and this foot up into an attitude so I'm going to bring both of those legs up at the same time; I'm jumping off of twp feet and I'm landing on two feet so I'm going to bend and jump, so pretty simple right? Just bend and jump; Ill show you one more time, bend and jump. If I wanted I could bring one leg up to the side and that would be a different kind of asymmetrical jump; I could bring my arms up to the side, jump; anyway you want, whatever you think is going to be pretty or interesting that's a little asymmetrical. The most important thing is that you're jumping firmly off of two feet and landing on two feet, and that you do something pretty with your arms; so that's a pretty simple asymmetrical jump that I like to do with modern dance.
