The Time Step in Tap Dancing: Part 1
Hi! My name is Connie Hale. Thanks for joining me here at expertvillage.com. Today, we’re working on some slightly intermediate advance steps. We’re going to be working on what’s called a time step. This is the first version of a time step. I’m going to go ahead and show that to you now, and then we’ll break it down. What that is called is stomp, hop, step, flap, step, stomp, hop, step, flap, step. Let’s break that down now. We’re going to start with our right foot—stomp it. Stomp, hop on that foot, hop, step on it, step, flap, step, with your other leg, flap, step. Now, you’re ready to start it over again. Stomp, hop, step, now flap step, flap, step. You have that free foot stomp. Stomp, hop, step, flap, step. Let me take that to the side for you, here we go. Stomp, hop, step, flap, step, stomp, hop, step, flap, step. Notice the weight distribution on my feet, how it’s evenly going back and forth. Stomp, when I hop the foot comes back, hop, step, flap, step, stomp, hop, step, flap, step. Let’s bring that to the front again. Stomp, hop, step, flap, step, stomp, hop, step. It’s roll right over one another. Here we go, starting with the right foot stomp. Stomp, hop, step, flap, step, stomp, hop, step, flap, step, stomp, hot, step, flap, step, stomp, hop, step. Alright, let’s bring that up to speed. Here we go to tempo. Double time it for you advanced people. Here we go, time step. And that is a basic time step.
