Removing the Alternator & Tips for Buying An Alternator
Hi! My name is Nate McCullough on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this clip we are going to talk about removal of the alternator and some pointers when you go to the parts store to get a new one. We have the mounting bolts out of our alternator. You pretty much just grab hold of it and pick it straight up. This is the alternator assembly; it is a self contained device. This is the vehicles voltage regulator; it's integral and when you replace it the alternator you get should come with a new one of these, have a new connecting nut on this charging stud. When you go to get your replacement alternator, you are going to want to take the old one or the one off of your vehicle with you to the parts store. A lot of these alternators are fairly universal being that manufacturer's want to try to cut costs in production and not every single vehicle is unique. The thing that will vary will be this pulley. The parts store you go to will remove this pulley and install it on the new alternator for you if you have it with you. So like I said you are going to want to take your alternator with you and ensure that the pulley's don't match, they change it for you, that the voltage regulator is there on the back and new and that y you've got a new nut and retaining washer for this stud.
