Making Excuses

Now we're going to talk about repairing problems in conversations. And believe it or not what we tend to do when we're trying to repair something that we've already done that we shouldn't have done, is we make excuses. And I'm actually going to stand here and tell you that that is OK. It is OK to make excuses when you are trying to repair conversations, things that you shouldn't have said. But the key is is that there are excuse makers and good excuses and there are bad excuse makers and bad excuses. And what we're ultimately trying to do is lessen the impact of the negative message. Maybe we've meant to hurt the person, maybe we didn't, but very clearly we've got a negative situation here.
