Supplies for Installing a Ceiling Fan
Hi! I'm Chad Smith and I'm a State Certified Journeyman Wireman; that's an electrician. Today I am with expertvillage.com and we are going to install a new ceiling fan today in this house. Now I know most of you have a ceiling fan that is still in the box that you got from the Home Improvement Center sitting in the garage, in the storage closet, in the bin somewhere and I know it happened. You went to the Home Improvement Center, you bought the ceiling fan thinking that your wife is going to love you and you are going to have multitudes of cool air and you got home threw it on the table and opened it up and it was like the psycho theme song going on there. It scared the heck out of you. You just slammed it shut, taped it and through it back in the closet. Never to be seen again. So I want you to go to the closet or garage get that and we are going to install it today. Now I'm going to talk about some of the tools that you are going to need for this project and everybody should have these for their project. One of the very first tools is a good screwdriver. Now this is a 5 in 1. It's got all the heads that you would ever need for any kind of application. Its got a Phillips head, its got a flat head and its just got a smaller version on the other end. A good 5 in 1 is good to have in your tool drawer. The next tool will be a set of pliers. Now today's project will require a set of pliers to undo the bolts that hold the ceiling fan up and also it is good to have them in case you need to stretch the wire out or cut wire or anything like that, so have a pair of these on hand. A pair of strippers; now there's a good chance that you won't need these but it is always good to have these for any household project. You can get them at any home improvement store or hardware store. Just go in and ask for a pair of strippers and they will show you right where they are at. A good screw gun. Now when you are out at the store looking at screw guns, I would recommend nothing less than a 9 volt screw gun. The reason for that is those little bitty screw guns that are like a hand screwdriver, those have no torque and the battery dies almost instantly. When you are out looking, look for nothing less than a 9 volt. You will just be happier with it. You won't have to go up and down the ladder constantly. This is a must for this project. Last but not least this is not a tool but we will use this. This is a roll of black tape. We will use this to save the leads in case they are tore up so have this on you. Last, actually not last but not least, you are going to need a good ladder. This good 6 foot ladder, 8 foot ladder to get into your house. Go out to the garage and get that. Finally I've got my sexy tool belt on and I know that women are going wild but it's not that great of a thing; actually it's real heavy and it kills me but tool belts are a good thing to have. You don't need one that is expensive as mine. Just a good front pouch so you can have all your wire nuts and everything like that in there. That will make it a lot easier when you are up on the ladder. You won't have to go up and down. So those are some of the tools that you will need for this project. Let's go ahead and get started on the ceiling fan.
