How to Parallel Park a Car
My name is Kevin Woods on behalf of expertvillage.com; phone number (314) 584-0116. Parallel parking; you want to give 4 to 6 feet from the right side of your car to the cone. What we have now is 2 cones. The first cone closer to us is represents the front end of a vehicle, the second cone furtherest away from us. The second cone furtherest away from us represents the back end of an vehicle. Move forward and we are going to get 4 to 6 feet. You just pull the wheel down a little bit, no jerking. Remember when you are parking, any time you are parking, you want to take your time; you make better adjustments when you take your time. So now we are coming in 4 to 6 feet from the right side of our car to the cone. Okay. Once we get that settled to 4 to 6 feet, the next thing that we are going to do is even up our back end with the cone. There, we are even with the cone, turn your wheel all the way to the right and hold her there. Next thing you are going to do is put your car in reverse and then you are going to get the back up position. Now your mechanics is so important. By having your wheel turned to the right and your car in reverse, you are going to slowly let the car go back. The car has been designed to get you a 45 degree angle, so now we are going to start going back nice and slow and when you go slow, you make better adjustments. This next point here will determine how close you are to the curb. So the first thing you want to do was even up your passenger side, back tire or right tire, with the cone. As we do that, okay. The next thing you do is turn your wheel all the way to the left and I want you to watch the body of the car straighten up. That is important. So what I am gong to do now is to get the backup position. Remember anytime you are moving a car back you want to be looking back. You want your hands an a steady position and you just let the body the car straighten up. Without hitting the curb and if you have your measurements right, you won't hit the curb. The curb and as you could see the body of the car is straightened up. By normally by the time you straighten the body of the car is straighten and normally by the time you straighten the body of the car up, the car is right where it needs to be.
