Motorcycle Riding: Shifting Gears

Alright, so in this segment we are going to be talking about shifting our bike now. We stayed in first gear for everything in here so far. We're going to go ahead and get out of first gear now. So what we're going to do is we're going to go ahead and I'm just going to briefly go over this again. All your shifting is in your left hand, so your clutch is here, and your shift knob is here down by your foot. So remember shifting is on your left hand side, braking is on your right side. And it's really important to know the difference between the two because you don't want to be grabbing a fist full of brake thinking that you are grabbing the clutch. So we're going to now go ahead and when we do our shifting we're going to run our rpms to where I don't know about six, seven, eight rpms. And then what you are going to do is pull on your clutch, you're going to pop it up here with your foot and then you are going to ease up that gas, and give it out again. So now shifting for most sports bikes are, first is down, second is the up, third up, fourth up, fifth up, sixth up. Most sports bikes have six gears so we're just going to, that's what we're working with today. So again we're going to go over that. You're going to run your rpms to about six, seven, eight rpms. Pull on that clutch, shift up, ease out that clutch and give it gas.
