Fashion Designs: Espadrilles Platform Shoes

Hey guys it's Laurel the fashion expert here. I'm going to give you my vast knowledge on platform shoes. We're going to do a pair of platform espadrilles right now and I don't know honestly, I'm not that much of an expert because I'm not sure if I'm saying that right but I think that's how it's said. And an espadrille, these are platforms so it's going to be a thicker sole, but it has a woven sole. The woven rope type sole, and that's why on my drawing you'll see that there's texture, a textured look. I just did cross hatching with two different colors. I used a marker and then I used a map pencil. That way some texture shows through and your, the look is conveyed through your cross hatching. Showing that it's not just wooden or some other flat surface. You're trying to show that it's rope. So I'm going to show you how to do first of all, the cross hatching to make it an actual espadrille and we're going to get started with that right now. The first step is to realize that this style of shoe is an iconic summer look so in order to convey your ideas through your drawings correctly and to let the viewer know what it is you're trying to design and what you're trying to portray. You need to learn how to do this, the cross hatching that I have here. That shows texture, that shows that it's not a slick surface and with espadrilles they're typically going to be rope of some sort and some variations some patterns. So we're going to do our platform. Decide how big you want it, and then in order to show the texture I used a pencil, I'm using a marker right now so it's not going to be as obvious but just do some, it doesn't have to be spaced out either. Just do cross hatching and then when you go in to do it make sure that some of the pencil, you can see here some of the pencil is still visible, that's purposeful. And then you can see that I have one darker color and one lighter color. That's again to show the texture and the variation. Right now I'm just doing it with a marker but this is the basis for your whole, bringing texture into it is the cross hatching. So that's the first point that you need to know. Then of course, designing the top part of your shoe because you can't just have sole. And then that's again to your liking. Whatever you feel like doing. I had mine lace up and then I'll just finish it here. But I had a bow in the back because obviously you can't just lace it up without a bow, you got to tie it somewhere. So there you go.
