Cover Foliage in Deck Care & Maintenance

Hi this is Drew Finn for expertvillage.com we are going to talk about cleaning and maintaining a deck. This video is presented by Black Dog Video and you can visit us on the web on blackdogvideo.biz. When we are cleaning the deck we are using chemicals that can do damage to foliage. So I want you to look around your deck before you start. If there are any plants you are going to have to cover them and depending on how the water flows you may want to divert it so it doesn't go over a grassy area. There we are using clorox today there are other chemical cleaners but obviously clorox would kill foliage. What we are going to have to use a little imagination today cause around my deck I have no foliage. But if you did this bail of hay pretend it is a beautiful green shrub. We need to protect it and what I do is cover it with plastic. So any water that happens to spray off won't get on our leaves and we cover it and we do the job and then we uncover the foliage. Now if it is a really sunny day you don't want to be putting a clear plastic or a black plastic over your foliage I would suggest doing it on a day that is just overcast or on in the evening when the sun is already down a bit. So we can not bake our plants obviously we don't want to get chlorine on them and kill them we don't want to bake and kill them other. So this how you do and be sure when you are done cleaning the deck you uncover your foliage. If in fact if the sun is out at all.
