How to Check Motorcycle Brakes

Right now we're going to talk about brake pad wear. It's very important to always inspect your brake pads before you ride or every couple rides. If you're a very aggressive rider you need to look at your brake pads even more. What can happen if you don't inspect your brake pads is the pad will actually wear down to the metal and you will ruin or warp your rotors and rotors aren't cheap, three or four hundred dollars a piece. The best way to inspect your brake pads is visually. What you can do is look at the brake pads and right here where I'm marking with the white pen that is how much pad is actually left on these brake pads. As you can see these are in great shape. This pad right here is not so much in good shape. You'd like to have at least three millimeters of brake pad left on your pads. Like I said if not if you wear down to the metal then you're going to wear down your rotor and unlike cars, these motorcycle rotors can't be turned and you will have to fork out serious money to get a new rotor and it's going to if you let it go long enough you can ruin your caliper and you're just talking about a whole lot of money. So it's always good to inspect your brake pads cause if not you could find yourself not being able to stop which isn't a fun thing especially if you're riding in the city or at high speeds. So always do a visual check front and rear of your brake pads and rotors for scoring on your rotors or minimal amount of pad left on your pads to ensure your safety and the safety of others in the community.
