Choosing a Dumbeck Drum

Hello I'm scoot Swearingen my website is rythmpig.com r-y-t-h-m-p-i-g-.-com and you are looking at Expert Village and I'm going to talk to about playing dumbek. There is different kinds of dumbek that you could get this on is el cheapo dumbeko it is actually a tool my wife bought for me years ago that is why I take this one camping. It sounds perfectly fine. .....good enough. Get that ring with the little rod. Now this here is one of the more expensive dumbeks it is kind of I don't know stylized dumbek they make these guys with a huge machine that pops that head on there and heats seal around it and then they tape it. So you can not tune either one of these. The heads are fiber, the..., the are always going to sound the like this. You can't get a different sound. If it is super cold or super moist it may vary sound a little bit. The nice thing about this kind of dumbek here is the sound is almost always the same. The more modern kind that is tunable and gives up a lot more volume and you could find these in most major drum stores. This is from mid east also. Now this one you see has a tuning....so you could vary the pitch. This is guy is beautiful and they could sell. As with jimbecks when you are selecting a dumbek you have the variables of money what you want to do it and where are going to go with it. If you don't have a lot of money and you are just buying a drum for the first time then get your self a 45 dollar of 50 dollar toy like this and start banging on that baby. Absolutely just as good as anything else. Nothing wrong with that cheap easy. But, it doesn't get a lot of volume and of course it is not as gorgeous as these guys right here. So when you are thinking about buying tunable verses not tunable verse toy and on of the things you do have to deal with is these heads are stretched super tight. You hit that baby with a stick and it is going to pop that head right off the stick is going to go right through and you are going to tare it right down the middle. On the other hand you got these 10 metal drums right here and damn unbreakable and if you pop that head you just go out and spend about 20 bucks on a new head. Unscrew these screws put the new head on and screw them in and boom you are done.
