Making Basic Notes Using Five Note Scale on Arpeggio Exercise on the Fiddle

Hi! I’m David Kaynor with expertvillage.com. I’m exploring the generating of basic notes and using the basic five note scale on arpeggio exercise. It’s easy to explore simply playing what sound like in tune notes of the G-scale…so to make it standard what I might do is a very quick on the fly pitch correction, by sliding my finger. It’s a very common way that fiddlers correct in accurate notes, and taken to an extreme a fiddler would sometimes deliberately play a note flat, because that means that there’s only one possible direction to go in, in order to make a correction, and that cuts the choices in half which is really simpler. So instead of going…and not being sure where I have to go to correct, if I start the note deliberately low, then there’s only one way to go and that’s up. I’m exaggerating but that is a way that a lot of fiddlers deal with the risk of inaccurate intonation; and over a long period of time that kind of compensation actually becomes part of a persons characteristic sound. Then people will say, “Oh I recognize David Kaynor’s playing because he does that little slide so often.” I actually don’t, but I’m just using that as an illustrative thing, etc, etc.
