Embossing: Outline Embossing Technique

Hi! My name is Elizabeth and on behalf of Expert Village, we’re continuing in our series of using embossing in card making. In this segment, we’re going to go further into how we did our line embossed image. This was a lined stamp that we embossed in white on a piece of vellum. Now I’m going to show you how to add a little color to this in a fun way. So on one side we have the white embossing. On the other side we’re going to flip it over. Here’s where you can use markers, colored pencils. Today, I’m going to use some chalks. I’m just going to open my chalks and I’m going to use just your basic Q-tip. I’m going to get a little green on there, and then I’m just going to put the green just along this stem here of the flowers, just adding this color. Now, remember this is on the opposite side of the vellum that you embossed on. You flipped it over and now you’re adding the color on the other side. So we’ve added the stems, and now you just want to get some other color and color in the flowers. Again, just with a Q-tip or an applicator if your have one. Just adding some color using the embossed image that you have on the other side as a guide, kind of coloring between the lines if you want or not, however you choose to do it. Get some blue…add some blue on this one. Now, obviously if you are using a stamp that you’ve embossed that has much wider open spaces, you’ll get a better look, a more advanced look. In this case, we’re just using this one to give you the idea of what it would look like. At this point, when we flip it over, it’s just a very subtle coloring on the other side, so you have your embossed image with just some very…almost pastel water color look to it, with the color coming in on the other side. At this point, you can attach the vellum with your vellum adhesive, or add brads or eyelets to embellish and attach it to the piece of cardstock to be added to your greeting card.
