Embossing: Outline Embossing Technique

Hi! My name is Elizabeth, and on behalf of Expert Village, we’re continuing in our series of tips and techniques for using embossing in making your cards. In this segment, we’re going to show how to use outline embossing and adding depth in your images. What I’m using here is an acrylic stamp with an acrylic block. I’m going to go ahead and ink up my image. The nice thing about using the acrylic stamps is that you can see very clearly how inked up they are. Then I’m using a piece of vellum. On this vellum, I’m going to put it so that it’s as straight as I can make it, and I’m going to stamp my image directly on it, pushing down firmly and then raising right up. A lot of times the vellum will stick, and so you just want to peel it carefully off. I’m going to be using white embossing powder now. I will just sprinkle this on. You want to make sure that you’re getting all over the image, and then tap it off. You then want to move this away so it doesn’t blow all over when you turn your heat gun on. When embossing with vellum, you want to be very careful, because the vellum will burn very easily. So hold your heat tool a little farther away, and make sure you’re moving very quickly. You want to be sure and check that you’ve got it in all the areas, and turn it off. At this point, you’ve just gone ahead and embossed your outlined stamped image onto your vellum.
