Tools for Embossing
Hi! My name is Elizabeth and on behalf of Expert Village, we’re continuing our series of embossing in your card making. Right now I’m going to talk to you a little bit about tools that you’ll need to emboss in your projects. The first thing is a heat tool. This right here is your basic embossing heat tool. This one I believe is made by Marvy. Heat tools can be found in any scrapbook store or craft shop. If your husband has an industrial strength heat gun, you can use that. You want to be wary of using a heat gun though because it has a much hotter higher temperature, so there’s much more probability of your paper burning and your melting of your embossing powders being uneven. My recommendation is to get an embossing heat tool such as this one. Another thing you’ll need is an embossing pad. This is an ink pad that has the embossing ink in it. This is what you would use when using your stamps, rubber stamps or acrylic stamps, to dip them in the ink, put them on your paper, and then add the embossing powders to. Next is an embossing pen. These embossing pens are fun for adding words or free handing other designs or images onto your thing. It has the embossing ink inside. It has a thin tip and a thick tip so that you can create your own designs and images. Lastly, the tool you’ll need is embossing powders. Embossing powders come in a range of colors. This is a clear one, which we’ll be using to make some stained glass images later, some cracked glass. You can get gold, pink…Just any color you want basically you can find in an embossing powder. These are mainly found in your scrapbook supplies stores, though some craft stores do carry a limited number of colors. Also, some really fun ones are the ones where they’re mixed. This is like a purple and silver embossing powder, and I will show you later how those come out when you use those. So, those are the tools that you can use. Another tool you might like to have on hand is a craft tray. This is a tray that you’ll be able to sprinkle the powders into and then put them back in the jar, as it makes it much easier. If you don’t have one you can use a sheet of paper, that’s what we’ll be using today because most people don’t have a craft tray and it’s easy to use without one.
