How to Use a Power Drill as a Screwdriver

Hi! This is Jon on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this video clip I’ll be talking about operation as a screwdriver. To use a drill as a screwdriver, you’re going to want to make sure first of all to get the appropriate bit. Here I have a Phillips head bit—there’s many different types of bits depending on what type of screw head that you have. And once you have that, you’re going to want to make sure you install that in your drill and tighten up that chuck. The next thing you’re going to want to do is ahead and set your speed and torque settings if you have these available on your screwdriver. So I’m going to make sure it’s in 3, and I’m going to move this down to about 10… Next you’re going to want to make a few practice runs, and you may need to adjust that torque setting depending on how deep you want to sink the screw into your material. When you do these practice runs, you’re going to want to make sure it’s in an area that is unnoticeable.
