Chords & Roman Numerals

Here I'm going to talk about creating and notating chords, specifically in this clip about the notes of a major scale and the important notes that are involved in making a chord. So first let's write out simply the numbers of the notes in a major scale of which there's seven. Now you'll often see these as Roman numerals which, if you're not familiar with Roman numerals, now you are. We've got one through seven. Now the important notes that you're going to need to construct your chords. The primary notes, are the "one" which is the base of the chord, the root note because it's the first note you're going to build off of. The "three" which determines major and minor. The "five" and the "seven".
