I'm Jeanna Rock and we're discussing how to choose books for your book club. The first rule is not all books lead to a good discussion. Even though there is a book that's number one on the New York Times best seller list doesn't mean that it is going to be a good book for discussion. You want to choose books that have depth to them; that have a little bit of controversy to them. So that you actually have something to talk about. There are lots of places available where you can find good books that are good for discussion. Actually most books that you read in high school probably would be good books for discussion because they are, they have that literary quality. But don't limit yourself to fiction. Make sure you widen your horizons. Choose novels that you may not normally read like science fiction. Make sure you look at nonfiction books as well particularly biographies or memoirs are always really interesting to discuss. Consider reading children's books as well. A lot of us have children and it's interesting to read the books that their reading and discuss them also. Don't limit yourself to novels or books. Why don't you read plays or maybe even poetry or short stories. There's a lot of reading material available and part of what you want to do is expand your horizons, expand your experiences as an adult so that you are a well read person and you can be in the conversations.
