Treating Pet Ferret Illness with Melatonin
Hi! My name is ran Friedman and I'm with Morning Star Animal Sanctuary and I am here to talk to you about my duck soup recipe and melatonin for ferrets on behalf of expertvillage.com. First of all I would like to show you some melatonin. It comes in liquid and it comes in capsules. These are little white pills that can be ground up. It is very important to note that melatonin in normally sold in 3 mg. Quantities but you can on-line form Puritan Plus is one place where many ferret sanctuaries order from. They have some tremendous prices and they also come in the 1 mg which is very important because it is 1 mg per ferret for duck soup serving. It is a liquid so you can measure 1 mg with a dropper that makes it easy. My duck recipe which I've already told about. You take out 1 cube and you heat it in the microwave for about 40 seconds. You add either ground ma\elontonin 1 mg. or a syringe of 1 mg of the liquid to that. Melatonin is used as a sleep aid for humans but in ferrets it is actually used for ferrets that are sick, do have adrenal or lymphoma or insulinoma. It helps them to sleep better but more than that a lot that have lost their fur, due to adrenal glad disease, it helps them grow their fur back. It is actually a little secret that the mink business used to use to improve the coats . So it is really good for hair for ferrets and definitely good for helping them to relax. The female ferrets that have adrenal do sometimes get swollen vulva and this will take that down almost within 2 weeks of using this and they should get it every day. Usually we give it at night with a nice duck soup and it makes them feel so much better.
