Signs of Gland Disease in Your Pet Ferret
Hi! I'm Fran Friedman with Morning Star Animal Sanctuary and I am going to talk to you about some of the signs of adrenal gland disease in ferrets on behalf of expertvillage.com. Our little subject here is Mitzi. She is approximately 5 years old. She is considered a senior and she is at that ripe age where she could come down with some of these terminal diseases that are real common in ferrets. Just want to show you that her hair is starting to get a little bit thinner but you will notice at the base of her tail, a lot of the hair is missing. This is a typical sign of adrenal ferret which means they are coming down with cancers and they would have to be removed but it is never for sure that they can always be removed because some of them are microscopically small that they do reoccur even after surgery. We do have Banda who is in here, he's sleeping now but he was completely bald and he had adrenal surgery when he was about 2 ½ years old and has completely recovered. He has been with us still for a couple of years and has grown all his hair back. But if you see this on your ferret that is usually a good sign that you should go to the vet and have blood work done and check that out. Blood work usually with ferrets start at about $150.00 because they send it away. It is very specialized and that is why ferrets can be an expense so make sure if you do have a ferret that you are willing to take to the vet for its needs.
