How to Draw a Pattern for a Hand Puppet
Hello this is Paul from Puppetsnstuff.com. You can find us on the worldwide web at www.puppetsnstuff.com. We are going to continue now with building our moving mouth puppet. We have already showed you our supplies. Now we are going to take that half yard of cataphyll fleece that I showed you earlier and we are going to lay it down in front of us and make sure that it is folded over. In other words you have your half yard and as you can see it is folded over. Make sure it is folded over; lay it out right in front of you and this is the part where we are going to draw the outline for our character. Now if you are not very good at drawing, I would suggest that you find a friend of somebody that knows how to do this but basically what we are going to do is draw a little character with his arms extended out and its head like so. Okay. While I am doing this I can tell you that it took me quiet sometime to start drawing these patterns just from memory. However, if you want to get much results I would advise you to draw the outline where the pattern of the character on probably a big piece of cardboard or paper which you can later on cut out and use to trace over your material. Through trial and error, you will find your own little system. You may want to improve my system here and there and that is completely fine. As an artist you are entitled to do that. I could see here on my pattern that I made the neck a little bit too small and I am going to show you exactly what I made here in a second. Let me just even out the head a bit. Okay now, let me show you what I drew here. I drew a little character. All right so now that we have done that we are going to cut the pattern out and we are going to fold it inside out, sew it and do all that fun stuff. Okay, when we come back we will start doing that.
