Windows XP My Documents: Picture Organization

Hi, this is Gerard Mainardi. Today we're talking about how to organize your My Documents folder in Windows XP. Remember, Microsoft Windows XP is a trademark of the Microsoft Corporation, of which I am not affiliated. Now we already talked about different ways to view your files, as far as date created, file name. We talked about organizing your music. We do your pictures kind of the same way, but lets take a look here. Here's everything in the My Pictures folder, which you get to right here by going through My Documents. The easiest way to do this, especially if you take a lot of pictures with a digital camera like I do, is to organize things by names and dates. There was an All Good festival in 2007, Halloween 2006 and 2007. Now as you know, if you use a digital camera, when things come off, it's not in a very clean format. Here you can see inside my 'behind the scenes' work folder, all the file names are in a DSCF with a number code. Now an easy way to look through these things, besides organizing by name, if you recall, we can click on things like the 'date modified' or the 'date created'. This sorts them in ascending or descending order; another easy way to look through your pictures. Now another good thing to do (we'll see if we look through something like Halloween), is that you can go through and individually label each picture. I find this very helpful, especially if you're sharing pictures with friends, trying to find ones to burn to a CD. You're not looking through a bunch of file names that you don't know. For instance, here's Outside-two through ten, pictures of Pass and Thomas, Paulie and Claire. It's much easier to tell exactly what you're looking for when it's cleverly labeled. Now the other thing to remember is, anything can go in here. You'll see here I have a Desktops and a Buddy Icons folder for my computer desktops and my buddy icons, respectively. It's a lot easier to keep organized if you keep everything as tight as possible. Don't be afraid to make too many folders, and don't be afraid to label things as accurately as you can.
